[Settles his arms on his desk and gives her a rather stern look] Listen, Brand. You wanted to talk this badly, so I’m going to assume it wasn’t about the niceties of my agents. I suggest you get to the point.

 Actually. [crosses her arms over her chest] It is about your agents. Do they ever do work around here? Coulson and Aine seem pretty capable, but every time I turn around, someone’s turned into a kiwi and someone else is fornicating and I’ve never seen any actual missions accomplished.

[He frowns deeply] If all you’ve come to do is bad-mouth my base of operations and my agents, you can head straight back out the door you came through. I have bigger and better things to worry about then this meaningless bullshit, Brand.

 Meaningless? You’ve got to be kidding me. I’m out there every day, keeping this rock from being invaded a hundred times over. I depend on you and your agents to protect it from the homefront, and yet every time I come around your people are sitting on their asses and doing nothing? Tell me exactly how that’s meaningless.

[Sighing again, Fury runs a hand over his head and leans back in his chair. He was tired. So tired of all this.] I understand what you do, Brand. For me and this planet. Don’t ever deny that I do not see or recognize it. Because I do. I see it everyday.

However, I believe your priorities are off. We need to find an end to this situation, to Loki’s rule now before it gets worse than it already is. Petty arguments, as much as I enjoy them [he scoffs at this] will have to wait.

As I said before, you’re either with me, or against me.

 I think that should be my line.

If my information is correct, a few teams of heroes are already breaking down Loki’s rule. Last I heard, four were spotted outside SHIELD headquarters in New York City, where we were held until two days ago. They were engaged in battle with the symbiote Carnage.  Another fight was rumored to have been heard in SHIELD’s courtyard, presumably involving Acting Director Jaime Slade. The White House is no longer transmitting anything, so I assume something has happened there too.

[Standing up, Fury had to bite his tongue to keep from cursing aloud.] I’ve got no agents and no Heroes under my guidance. I’ve been kept in the dark far too long! 

[Turns back to Brand] I need you to be my eyes. The very small amount of information I’ve been receiving lately has either been incomplete or false. If worse comes to worse, I’ll go out there myself. Heroes, agents, or no.

I’m just ecstatic about that, Brand.

 You’ve been avoiding me long enough. Maybe if you’d faced your problems instead of running from them, we wouldn’t be in this mess.

[Sighs deeply and pinches the bridge of his nose] Fine. If you’re so eager to talk to me, come find me. I’m in my office.

 So you’re actually going to talk to me this time? Fine. I’m on my way.
